About Earthshine

A new non-profit charitable organization, the Earthshine Astronomy and Space Science Organization (EASSO), has been formed to help build and operate a state-of-the-art Planetarium and Space Discovery Centre in the western Greater Toronto Area.  The Earthshine Astronomy and Space Foundation will:

● Develop and deliver an Astronomy education/outreach program
● Develop a membership base for public support
● Lead in the development of the vision, design, governance and programs of a new planetarium
● Advocate for private and public investment in the new facility
● Raise funds for operations

The new Planetarium and Space Discovery Centre will be among the country’s most advanced science education facilities. Combining state-of-the-art technology, hands-on learning and a staff of educators, the new Planetarium and Space Discovery Centre will take visitors on an educational adventure to the far reaches of space to explore the starry night sky or voyage to a distant galaxy. It will also be able to take audiences back to discovery Earth’s history or into modern science by exploring the strands of a DNA molecule. Students and families will be transformed by the immensity and beauty of our planet and universe.

Astronomy Education

Astronomy permeates the history, philosophy, mythology and religion of almost every culture in Canada. With the increase in popularity of space exploration activities and discoveries, astronomy and space sciences have attained a high level of interest with people from all walks of life. Students, in particular, have an almost natural interest in astronomy. This interest makes astronomy and space a perfect vehicle for teaching and inspiring students to learn about science.
